Hello glorious and beautiful family!
I was talking to a very dear fellow-traveler this morning about the nitty gritty. The stuff we deal with in the day to day.
The topic of differences came up. I may have a very strong opinion or thought about a certain subject. My thought and opinion are so strong that I can’t imagine that anyone could think otherwise. But there are those that think oppositely, people that have opinions completely contrary to mine.
What’s up with that?
Is one right? Is one wrong?
Or are both completely fine? Are we meant to have differing thoughts?
At the beginning of Tolkien’s Silmarillion, It talks about how God created the Holy Ones and propounded (expressed) to them themes of music and they sang according to the music that God provided to them. And it says that for a long time, each of them sang alone, or in pairs or trios. As each of them sang, the others listened. “for each comprehended only that part of the mind of Iluvatar (God) from which he came, and in the understanding of their brethren they grew but slowly. Yet ever as they listened, they came to deeper understanding, and increased in unison and harmony.”
So maybe, we only know that part of the heart of God from whence we came, and we need to listen, hear, embrace the songs of others, songs that are not just like ours, songs that only they can sing until we learn them.
I don’t want to look down with disdain on those who are different from me. I want to listen to their song. I want to learn it. Eventually, we will all be singing together. What a glorious day.
I love you all, and I love hearing each of your songs.
